About us
Beaumont Street Studios is a not-for-profit company started
in 1985 by the Huddersfield West Indian Association. We provide
music and media production, training and facilities hire, particularly
geared to addressing needs in disadvantaged communities across
the Region. BSS retains a black management committee and focuses
on delivering initiatives to provide employment/self employment
and opportunities for wider involvement in music, media and cultural
industries.
BSS is experienced and familiar with running large-scale Regional
initiatives. Our activities include:
- Face 2 Face Mentoring is a basic form of human development where one person invests time, energy, and personal
know-how in assisting the growth and ability of another;
- Blueprint is a brand new scheme offering people on incapacity benefit in North Yorkshire the opportunity to access free specialist training for a variety of exciting jobs;
- over 1500 unemployed/disadvantaged people formally trained
to date in media skills;
- HD1 Studios a Digital and Analogue recording studio frequently used by leading artists
and the local community;
- Media Box a major youth music programme across the sub-region;
- creative sector enterprise and business start-up training;
- positive action courses for ethnic minorities, women and people
with disabilities;
- outreach projects with young people run in schools, youth
clubs, with voluntary organisations and elsewhere.
Beaumont Street Studios is committed to:
- community based media production and training;
- professional standards of production and service delivery;
- cross-subsidy of local activity through commercial work;
- initiating and supporting projects addressing economic regeneration;
- providing a link between community and industry;
- enabling and encouraging participation in music and media
activities and careers.
