A Guide to Creative Sector Employment

The first Creative Industries Mapping Document was produced by The Department of Culture, Media and Sport in November 1998. Their original definition of the creative industries, "those industries which have their origin in individual creativity , skill and talent and which have a potential for wealth and job creation through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property", forms the basis of our guidance booklet.

Beaumont Street Studios is the first provider contracted by the Employment Service, in the UK, to deliver a professional mentoring service specifically aimed at the creative industries. Proposed and designed around our delivery of the New Deal for Musicians MIC provision our objectives are to guide and advise participants through providing specialist industry advisors, talking one-to-one, to help achieve employment in the creative industries.

The booklet was designed to guide you through industry sectors which constitute the creative industries. We have shown the core activities, related activities and related industries under each industrial sector. Our aim is to provide a quick and easy guide to the creative industries and allow you to provide prospective participants and yourselves with ideas of how skills and ambitions can be translated into realistic goals through an informed path.
