Tutor enjoys first year success
A former New Deal for Musicians participant is celebrating a
successful first year as a self-employed guitar tutor.
Barnsley-based James Proud is now teaching a variety of guitar
styles to around thirty students a week in a converted room in
his home. James has now earned enough from his business to pay
the fees for a well-respected three-year degree course in music
technology at his local college.
During his self-employment option on New Deal, James prepared
a business plan and cash flow but has been pleased that things
have worked out better than he had expected. With pupils ranging
from six to seventy years old, James is also completing a part-time
teaching qualification. Whilst he completes his music technology
course James will continue his freelance tuition to help pay his
way through college.
