Kerry Goes Global
After gaining a taste for travel as a magician's assistant on
Mediterranean cruise ships, New Deal participant Kerry Rushton
is preparing another globe-trotting adventure as a singer.
With cash from the New Deal's advisor's discretionary fund, Kerry
has been able to purchase a keyboard to help her bid to entertain
cruise ship passengers and hotel guest around the world. The keyboard
will enable Kerry to practise and rehearse her songs, and to play
back her backing tracks so she can perform without the expense
of a band. The instrument will also help her complete the work
for the Music Open Learning Provision. Influenced by artists like
Shirley Bassey, Texas and the Cranberries, Kerry has also taken
courses in business and performance skills to help her succeed.
"My music industry consultant has been extremely helpful
in answering many of the questions I have had in preparing myself
for potential work around the world," explained Kerry. Kerry,
who worked as a magician's assistant on a cruise ship around the
Greek islands and Mediterranean for a year, is now working on
a CD of backing tracks.
