New Deal for Musicians
Between 1999 and 2002 Beaumont Street Studios ran the New Deal
for Musicians Music Industry Consultancy Service throughout the
Yorkshire and Humber Region. It provided a service on behalf of
Jobcentre Plus (previously the Employment Service) for people
who were unemployed and on New Deal who wanted to get into the
music industry. Here are some of their stories:

Beaumont Street Studios' New Deal for Musicians (NDfM) service
helped nearly 700 people in this region establish careers in the
music industry, develop their skills, move into training or education.
For many it provided an invaluable link with the music industry:
a professional from the business to talk through career plans
and to provide informed and independent help in moving towards
and into employment.
Beaumont Street Studios' NDfM service helped singers, songwriters,
instrumentalists, composers and performing DJs by:
- providing advice and specialist information on all aspects
of the music industry
- developing skills and provide realistic planning towards a
career in the music industry
- identifying training and support musicians throughout your
time on New Deal
- providing a confidential, non-judgmental service in your area
at times to suit you.
The Beaumont Street Studios' MIC Service:
We provided the service through our Music Industry Consultants
- all established successful professionals in the music business.
We linked each participant to their individual MIC to meet one-to-one,
face-to-face in local venues to discuss the participant's aspirations,
ambitions and begin to work towards a career in the music business.
BSS no longer provides the NDfM MIC service, but for anyone in
Calderdale and Kirklees, who wants to work in the music business
in any capacity other than performing and composing, then
our New Deal for Creative Industries service can help. If you
are interested, for instance, in studio engineering, production,
promotion, management, live sound engineering, tour management,
music publishing, retail or business management (or any other
non-performing music career) then look at the New Deal for Creative
Industries page of this site and contact us to get the help you
need.
